Transactional Attorney

Joyce & Bary Law, PLC, is growing, and you could be a part of it!

We are adding a transactional lawyer to support our business practice. We’re open to a long-term relationship, which, for the right individual, could grow into an opportunity to transition clients and a practice area.

Ideal candidates will have an interest in advising small-business owners and negotiating and drafting various agreements, including asset purchase and sale, stock purchase and sale, shareholder, operating, executive compensation, non-compete and more. The successful candidate will have excellent writing, research, issue-spotting and communication skills.

Initially, the individual in this position will work with an experienced lawyer on transactions representing a diverse group of established small-business clients.

Work location:

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with and support partners’ clients and legal projects representing a wide range of transactional needs
  • Consistently communicate and update clients on progress and actions
  • Meet with clients to assess legal needs and draft appropriate agreements
  • Ensure all actions adhere to legal best practices with professionalism and integrity
  • Record time and billing details daily and in line with the firm’s best practices
  • Work with partners to support the goals and growth of the firm


Ideal candidates will:

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of commercial law
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be exceptionally organized and adept at capturing, detailing and follow-up
  • Exercise professionalism with all team members
  • Commit to personal and professional integrity and loyalty, which are cornerstones of the firm
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel


Background checks:

All successful candidates will be required to pass a criminal background check and produce a current comprehensive credit report.



$50,000.00 – $76,000.00 per year, commensurate with experience

Full-time, Monday through Friday



  • Virginia Bar Membership or eligible for membership (required)
  • North Carolina Bar Membership (desired, but not required)
