Our Story

Jim Joyce and David Bary are experienced disability attorneys who choose to practice disability law because of personal experiences. They have seen friends and family members suffer from medical conditions while struggling to receive the financial and health benefits they deserve. Jim and David understand the importance of working directly with clients and helping throughout the disability process.

Over the past eighteen years, Jim and David combined have attended more than five thousand disability hearings across Virginia, Tennessee, and other states. Jim and David work closely with the local Social Security Administration District Offices in Southwestern Virginia and East Tennessee, Disability Determination Services and the Offices of Hearings Operations.

The Joyce & Bary Law Principles:

  • Show compassion, dignity, and respect for all clients
  • Focus attention on clients and their cases with help at every step of the way
  • Use a team that includes training and experience in vocational and medical fields
  • Stay on top of changes in disability law and technology
  • Improve chances of winning benefits by helping with initial applications and developing cases early

The Joyce & Bary Process:

Here at Joyce & Bary both of our experienced lawyers will work together on your case, but you will only be charged one fee if we win. After an initial telephone interview, you will talk to the lawyer who is going to handle your case. If you have filed a disability application, we will obtain a copy of your file and work with you to develop your case. During the initial stages of your case, you will interact with our expert team members to build the foundation of your case.

Jim and David understand the importance of developing your case in the early stages of the disability process. Our team includes Terry Newman an experienced vocational and disability consultant. Terry and our team members will help prepare and submit your paperwork to the Social Security Administration.

If your claim is scheduled for hearing, Jim and David will skillfully analyze your file and prepare you for the hearing. After this meeting our team will continue to gather your medical evidence and attempt to obtain opinion evidence from your medical providers. We use the same software and technology utilized by experts that offer testimony in disability hearings.
